THE METAMOOCIL MOUNTAIN BOYS

The Metamoocil Mountain Boys are comprised of three musicians from the mountains of Western Colorado. As instructors for the Colorado Pickin' Camp, they were asked to perform an impromptu concert. They nicknamed themselves the "Metamoocil Mountain Boys" and the name, and the band, stuck. Seven years later, their music is still presented in a spirit of fun while at the same time paying homage to all that obscure music that never made it to the mainstream “where everybody’s dancin’ to the same Top 10!” The “Boys” are made up of George Gertz, Paul Frazier and Larry Claxton.

Paul Frazier sings lead and harmony vocals. He is an accomplished musician and plays guitar and percussion with the group. Paul has a strong musical  background which includes touring the United States and Europe performing diverse styles of music. Recently retired from the Montrose School District, he now teaches music part time in Delta schools and guitar at Starrs Guitars. Larry Claxton plays bass and sings lead and harmony vocals. Larry has been involved in the music scene for several years both as a performer, festival promoter and a radio DJ. His musical background includes performances at the Silverton Jubilee, Telluride Bluegrass Festival, and the Strawberry Music Festival in Yosemite, California.  George Gertz plays guitar and sings lead and harmony vocals.  He has an extensive background in blues and bluegrass music and is co-founder of the original Palisade Bluegrass & Roots Music Festival, North Fork Bluegrass Festival, and the Colorado Pickin' Camps.   George has also served as vice president of the Colorado Bluegrass Music Society and as DJ with KVNF & KDNK Public Radio.
